This delicious and easy Braai Pineapple Teriyaki Prawns recipe is perfect for a summer BBQ. It combines succulent prawns with a sweet-tangy pineapple teriyaki marinade for a unique flavor. The prawns are grilled over a medium-high heat for just a few minutes so that they remain juicy and succulent. To make the marinade, you’ll need pineapple juice, soy sauce, sesame oil, honey, garlic, and ginger.


  • 1 kg prawns, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup pineapple juice
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Salt and pepper, to taste


  1. In a medium bowl, mix together pineapple juice, soy sauce, sesame oil, honey, garlic, and ginger. Stir until combined.
  2. Add the prawns to the marinade and let sit for 30 minutes.
  3. Preheat grill to medium-high heat (200°C).
  4. Remove the prawns from the marinade and discard the marinade. Thread the prawns onto skewers.
  5. Grill the prawns for 2-3 minutes per side, or until cooked through.
  6. Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, dissolve the cornstarch in the water. Stir in the marinade and bring to a simmer over low heat.
  7. Simmer for 5-7 minutes, or until the sauce thickens. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper.
  8. Brush the prawns with the teriyaki sauce and serve.
