– 2 cups all-purpose flour
– 1 tsp baking soda
– 1/4 tsp salt
– 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
– 1/2 cup buttermilk
– 2 eggs, beaten
– 2 tsp almond extract
– 2 cups almond flakes
– 2 cups white sugar
– 2 cups water
– 2 tsp almond extract


1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse meal.
3. In a separate bowl, whisk together buttermilk, eggs, and almond extract.
4. Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and mix until combined.
5. Shape dough into small balls and place on a greased baking sheet.
6. Bake for 15 minutes or until lightly golden.
7. In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, water, and almond extract. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat and reduce heat to low. Simmer for 5 minutes.
