Recipe: Mortadela and Pistacio Braai Broodjie

Description: This delicious and unique take on a traditional South African braai broodjie combines the salty and savory flavors of mortadela and the nutty crunch of pistacios. Grilled to perfection, this braai broodjie will be a hit at any braai gathering.

Ingredients:
– 8 slices of white bread
– 200g of mortadela, thinly sliced
– 100g of shelled pistacios
– 200g of grated mozzarella cheese
– 4 tablespoons of butter, softened
– Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:
1. Preheat your braai grill to medium heat (around 180 degrees Celsius).
2. Lay out the 8 slices of bread on a flat surface.
3. Spread a thin layer of butter on one side of each slice of bread.
4. On 4 of the slices, place a layer of mortadela, followed by a sprinkle of pistacios and a pinch of salt and pepper.
5. Top the mortadela and pistacio slices with a generous amount of grated mozzarella cheese.
6. Place the remaining 4 slices of bread on top, butter side facing up.
7. Carefully transfer the assembled broodjies to the braai grill.
8. Grill for 3-4 minutes on each side, until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
9. Remove from the grill and let cool for a minute before slicing into triangles.
